Bonine Research and Travel Award

For any students who will be studying abroad this summer and are still looking for funding!

The Michael Bonine Research and Travel Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, with awards are between $500-$2000.

We’ve extended the deadline for Summer and Fall semester awards to March 15^th, 2019!

IRC summer 2019 internship program

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global humanitarian aid organization that responds to the world’s worst crises and helps people survive, recover, and rebuild their lives. The IRC in Tucson opened in 1997, and is one of 30 U.S. offices that work locally with the community to best provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services that reflect the unique challenges refugees face. Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees – survivors of violent conflict, and often torture – to rebuild their lives and regain self-reliance. Interns will be assigned to various tasks, such as helping newly arrived refugees find employment, teaching Cultural Orientation classes to help refugees adjust to life in America, or advocating on behalf of refugee’s medical needs.

Summer Internship Program Details:

• Interns are expected to commit 20 to 25 hours a week to their internship typically by working 3 full business days or every morning or afternoon.
• Summer interns are required to attend an orientation session on their first day of work either on May 20th or June 3rd and they are expected to work a minimum of 10 weeks from their orientation date.
• Interns must attend weekly internship meetings where they will receive ongoing training on topics, such as trauma-informed care, cross-cultural communication, and non-profit administration.
• Requirements can vary if there are specific needs to receive internship credit.

 Application Process

• The summer internship application has several optional deadlines.
• Deadline 1: March 18th - Candidates who apply by this date will receive an acceptance decision by April 1st or sooner. Students seeking to receive college course credit for their internship are encouraged to apply by this deadline.
• Deadline 2: April 17th - Candidates who apply by this date will receive an acceptance decision by May 1st or sooner.
• Rolling Deadline: Applications that are received after April 17th will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates are encouraged to apply by the first and second deadlines to ensure there will be available internship positions.
• Learn about the different internship positions offered by the IRC here. You cannot apply to a specific position but you will be able to list your preferred positions and the Volunteer Coordinator will work to place you at the position that is the best fit.
