LifeSTEP Program

The Psychology Clinic has established a community service agency that provides undergraduate life skills trainers (and mentors) to school-aged youth with emotional and/or behavioral problems.  The vast majority of these children are from a minority group living in poverty in Tucson and are struggling with a variety of emotional and behavior problems.
We are currently accepting applications for the Spring 2018 semester.  As a LifeSTEP (Life Skills Training and Enhancement Program) intern, you would be meeting with your assigned youth about once a week for about 4 hours each time. Activities might include going to the movies, getting an ice cream, going bowling or spending time at a park, etc (you would be reimbursed for your expenses including gas).  You would receive 3 units of internship credit (393 or 493 depending on your U of A status), and you would have the opportunity to receive training in this area.

We are especially in need of male interns (due to the high number of older boys in need of a positive male role model) although we have positions for female interns as well.

If you are interested (and are at least 18 years old), please complete the attached application & email it back to julief@u.arizona.edu by December 4.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Maximum Impact Physical Therapy Job Opening

Job Location                         Tucson, AZ

Job Category                        Customer Care – Physical Therapy Technician

Position Type                        Part Time or Full Time

Description

As a Physical Therapy Technician or, as we like to call it, an Exercise Specialist, you will be responsible for all functions of the technician/specialist position kit and caboodle.  The ideal candidate is a stickler for details who works with a sense of urgency when it comes to servicing our patients.

At MI (Maximum Impact), we like to hire the most talented people for our teams, and then give them the freedom to do their jobs.  Here, we work hard – but we have lots of fun doing it.  So if you like an exciting, collaborative work environment, you’ll fit right in.

Responsibilities:

·         Keep your eye on the ball.  Assist patients in safe practice of their activities.

·         Be an exercise expert – learn extensively from your therapists about exercises and functional movement.  Seamlessly act as an extension of the therapists – anyone dizzy yet…
·         Be a best friend - build rapport and maintain a friendly, but professional relationship with patients.
·         Get ready to fly by the seat of your pants.  This role is ever-evolving – so flexibility is a must, we may occasionally ask you to do a few jumping jacks, or at least try some things outside of your wheelhouse.

Abilities and Knowledge:

·         Be organized, ahead of schedule, communicative, and accountable – in short, own your role entirely, while being open to critiques, suggestions, and new ideas.
·         Remain cool under pressure.  Things can get pretty hectic at times, so we want to make sure you keep calm and carry on through even the most stressful of circumstances.
·         Rock the mic like a vandal – not just in karaoke, but in all forms of communication (i.e., talk well and write good stuff).  We’re talking impeccable communication skills.  You’re representing MI, after all, and we take our brand seriously.

·         Know how to roll up your sleeves.  We have a lot of brass tacks here, and we like to get down to ‘em.
·         Jibe with our company culture.  We’re talking energy, integrity, positivity, a hunger for knowledge, and a passion for helping patients.  Bring all that and a bag of chips.  Seriously, we love chips.

Required:

·         At least two years of experience in customer service.

Preferred:

·         Knowledge of EMR systems.
·         Experience in physical therapy environment.
·         Bilingual.
