Orthopedic Outcomes Internship Program

The objective of the OOIP is to provide students with the opportunity to assist with the collection of wearable sensor and survey data to determine functional and patient-reported outcomes following orthopaedic surgery, to introduce the skills required to conduct clinical research, and to provide an opportunity to preview and/or propose program evaluations, quality initiatives, and/or research projects in which these skills could be utilized

In-Home Personal Care Assistant Needed

 

Great Experience for Those in Healthcare -Related Fields

 * Help needed Weekday and/or Weekend mornings to assist a 54yo male with a disability (spinal cord injury/paralysis as a teen) in getting out of bed regularly for an ongoing period of time beginning end of July.  I prefer to begin at 7:00-8:00am on weekdays and weekends (or some holidays).  Can be used to help supplement your normal income and/or heathcare work experience.

 

 * Total time each morning approx. 1:45 hrs once the routine is learned.

 

 * Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated.  Wife and I are both vaxxed as of mid-March.

 

 * We don't smoke.  We do have 2 dogs who are very friendly once they know somebody.

 

 * Live a few blocks south of downtown Tucson between Broadway & 22nd Sts.

    Short drive from UofA

 

My primary daily needs are:

 * bathing (in bed),

 * getting dressed,

 * disconnecting/reconnecting catheter (*NOT* changing the catheter itself),

 * full-assist standing pivot transfer from bed to a wheelchair, (we do not use a Hoyer lift),

 * adjusting clothes and repositioning person in wheelchair for comfort & safety,

 * some very basic (mix & microwave) breakfast preparation

Diabetes Prevention Health Coaches/Promotores

 

Status: Part-Time                                                      

Collaborates with: Program Manager - Robbie Martin, MD

Approx. hours/week: 10 hours/week

Days of week: One weekday, Saturday and/or Sunday

Salary: Compensated Position Depending on experience (DOE)


Main Function:

Health coaches/promotores are responsible for helping patients manage their prediabetes. They will collaborate directly with the program director to utilize a diabetes prevention program (DPP) curriculum developed by Vincent et al, 2014. The DPP is a 6-month program that promotes healthy eating and physical activity, with an initial intensive 8-week curriculum. Each week a patient will participate in a 2–3-hour group session with health coaches. The goal of the program is to prevent prediabetes patients from converting to diabetes mellitus. Two health coaches/promotores will facilitate a DPP session with a group of at least 15 patients in collaboration with another health coach/promotora. This requires at least 2-hours of direct interaction with the patients, other time will be spent meeting with the program manager, helping the data manager with data entry, surveying, and program planning.

 

Summary:

Clínica Amistad is an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Tucson that provides free primary healthcare services to the underserved and uninsured. Being a health coach/promotora will help the community fight against devastating diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Health coaches/promotoras must qualify for the duties and functions listed below. Most of the duties will be performed on-site, off-site, and/or virtually as to be determined by the program director. Health coaches/promotoras will collaborate with other health coaches/promotoras and the program director on a weekly basis and will attend weekly team meetings to brainstorm and discuss patient statuses. The success of the program is heavily dependent on collaborating together successfully as a team.

 

Duties:

  1. Attend an introductory meeting with the program director and data manager
  2. Participate in program training
  3. Download and print DPP weekly curriculum
  4. Create weekly lesson plans
  5. Call and enroll patients into DPP program
  6. Work with program director and data manager to schedule patients for weekly DPP
  7. Become holistically familiar with patient social status and capacity to perform DPP
  8. Prepare and facilitate weekly DPP lesson plan for patients in group settings
  9. Collaborate with physicians, physical trainers and public health professionals for DPP activities
  10. Collaborate with data manager to input patient data into system and help disseminate quality assurance surveys and indicators for evaluation

Preferred Qualifications:

       Availability to continue working with patients as a volunteer health coach after the initial 8-week intensive, to see patients through a 6-month program

Requirements:

       Must be bilingual in spanish (intermediate level)

       Must have a laptop computer with functional camera and audio
