In-Home Personal Care Attendant/Assistant Wanted (Downtown Area)

In-Home Personal Care Attendant/Assistant Wanted (Downtown Area) Weekend mornings, less than 2 hours each day, close to Campus

I prefer an Applicant who is working toward a degree in medicine, _OR_ who already is a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) _OR_ has a number of recent and/or current job references of a similar nature to provide care for a 50 year old, male quadriplegic. Must be reliable and have reliable transportation.

For potential Applicants who are not yet in a medical field, experience such as this can be a benefit when applying for nursing school, PT or OT schools, or for other medical degree programs.

Help needed Weekend mornings to assist getting a male with a disability (spinal cord injury, paralysis) out of bed regularly for an ongoing period of time, including through the summer.  The times are short but pay can be useful to help supplement your normal income.

Total time for the morning position is less than 2 hrs per morning once the routine is learned. It usually takes 2 hrs to finish as we're just getting started and getting to know how each other work and gets faster from then on.  I'd like to find someone who can start near 8 or 8:30am weekend mornings.

I'm near 50 yrs old, been married 20+ yrs, and have had my disability since an accident in my teens. I'm very easy going, college educated, and like to talk & joke around. I tend to get along with almost anybody. Most assistants/aides tend to stay several years. I'm in the downtown Tucson area, 10 minutes from UA, St. Mary's Hospital & VA Hospital.

We don't smoke and prefer a non-smoker (though not a deal-breaker). We do have 2 dogs who are very friendly once they know somebody.

Primary morning needs are:
* bathing (in bed),
* dressing,
* disconnecting/reconnecting catheter (*NOT* changing a catheter itself)
* full-assist pivot transfer from bed to a wheelchair, (not difficult as I am not heavy)
* adjusting clothes and repositioning person in wheelchair for comfort & safety,
* hair washed in sink, and
* some very basic breakfast preparation

Exercise Science Club at NAU

My name is Megan Steele, and I'm the treasurer for the Exercise Science Club at NAU. I am reaching out to you because my club is going to be doing some volunteer work in Baja, Mexico this summer, and we are looking for more volunteers in order to make our trip happen. Please forward this to all of your students in your club/organization. Thank you!

This trip is through a program called International Student Learning, and is for students who want to go into the field of physical therapy. We will be with licensed physical therapists providing care to the underprivileged population of Baja. The trip is 1 week long from June 11th to June 17th and the cost is $1195. This is the least expensive volunteer abroad volunteer opportunity that I have ever come across! The cost includes housing, 2 meals per day, travel, medical supplies, and more!

This is an awesome opportunity for those who want to get hands on experience in the field of PT, and determine whether it's something to pursue as a career. It's also a great resume builder for those applying to PT school, as well as a rewarding personal life experience. However, we need a few more volunteers in order to make this trip happen. If you are interested, PLEASE email me. If you go through me, I will be able to get get a discount for you. My email is: mls549@nau.edu

Here is the link to the website:

Please email me as soon as possible if you are interested, and I will get you more information. The deadline is May 11th. I apologize for the short notice about this trip, but I hope that we can unite as Arizona schools and make this trip happen. I look forward to hearing from you!
