AT Technician Volunteer orientation

 

Do you like sports? Interested in a Sports Medicine career path? If the answer is “yes” to these questions then consider volunteering as an Athletic Training (AT) Technician with the Arizona Athletics’ C.A.T.S. Medical Services.

 

 Volunteers will work within the University of Arizona Athletics -Sports Medicine Department and will be introduced to the collegiate sports medicine atmosphere, observing our certified athletic trainers and employed athletic training technicians with the management, treatment and rehabilitation of our student-athletes.  Volunteers have the opportunity to work in two AT facilities- Kasser Sports Medicine Center in McKale and in Lowell-Stevens Athletic Training facility.  

 

Primary duties for volunteers are: athletic training room maintenance, assist in staff and students techs in injury treatment/management, assist employed athletic training technicians in practice set up/breakdown and occasional practice coverage.

  

At the end of the volunteer process, students may be invited to interview for a paid Athletic Training Technician position for the following semester.  Employment is based on application form, volunteer history and compatibility, knowledge of competencies and interview. Below is are the details regarding this year’s orientation.

Hours Sign-Up for LSFF

2.       Date: Friday, February 5th

3.       Time: 6:45 am – 8:00 am

4.       Location: Lowell-Stevens Football Facility

1.       LSFF is located on north end of Arizona Stadium.  There are double doors at midpoint of building.  Upon arriving at these doors, please call (520)621-0820 and we will let you into the building.

2.       Bring:  Completed paperwork from attachments above: Volunteer Application, DCC Worksheet and Volunteer Code of Conduct

3.       We will do a quick tour and take a headshot of everyone. 

4.       THIS WILL BE YOUR ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP FOR HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER

 

Hours  Sign-Up for McKale

1.       Date: Friday February 5th

2.       How: Google Sheets – you will receive an email on THURSDAY EVENING with a link to sign up, and with instructions for accessing the McKale ATR. You will have until FRIDAY EVENING to sign up for your shift.

3.       SEND completed paperwork from attachments above to sbauer32@arizona.edu, and BRING a hard copy to your first volunteer shift

4.       THIS WILL BE YOUR ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP FOR HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER

 

NICE TO KNOW INFO

Please note the following information regarding our program and process:

1.    As a department, it is required that each student volunteer in our clinics prior to consideration for employment.

2.    It is recommended that volunteers work approximately 4 hrs a week (or 40 hours total) within our facilities in order to fully understand the demands of this position.

3.    If applying for employment you will be required to complete job-related competencies that you will learn during your volunteer hours.

4.    Employment opportunities are based on needs of our department and will vary between semesters and facilities.

5.    Although we have physical therapists on staff, your hours are considered athletic training and are NOT applicable as physical therapy volunteer hours as we are the athletic training department.

BIO5 INSPIRING WOMEN OF STEM

Are you a woman STEM researcher?

Do you have questions or concerns about being a woman in STEM?

Would you like to learn from women who have distinguished themselves
in the STEM field?

An interactive panel of inspiring women from cross-disciplinary STEM fields will share their unique journeys. The panelists will be representative of different career stages to offer the broadest perspective possible. Following the panel discussion there will be a one-on-one networking session with panelists providing attendees with an opportunity to gain further insight. This event is open to local community members, high school students, and the UA community at large, and is designed to inspire women in their pursuit of a STEM education and/or career.
