Gaming and Advising with The A Center!

I wanted to pass along an invitation to join in The A Center's Gaming and Advising sessions weekly on Fridays from 2pm-4pm, our fun new initiative we're using to connect with students! Here's the specific details on how to get connected (which was shared with the students as well):

Need a quick break?
Want to chat with an advisor?
Why not both?! Drop in to our weekly Gaming and Advising session!
Join the Discord (https://discord.gg/vZaxtmR) to chat (Mac/PC/Mobile), or add The A Center on League of Legends (Mac/PC) or Fortnite (Mac/PC/Switch/Xbox One/PS4/Mobile) to play.
See you on the Rift or the Battle Bus!

Career support for students and the faculty/staff who help them

When it comes to career, you don’t have to be the expert! Let us help.
Below is a list of three things students can do to keep on track with their career exploration and planning and three things to support students do the same thing, without having to create new materials or be the expert.
FOR STUDENTS
ATTEND ONLINE EVENTS AND PROGRAMS
Until further notice, SECD, as well as departments across campus, are shifting their career-related programs and events online. Find virtual events in Handshake.
SCHEDULE ONLINE APPOINTMENTS WITH A PEER OR CAREER EDUCATOR VIA ZOOM (OR EMAIL OR PHONE)
If you need timely career advice from a peer or career educator, you can practice social distancing and get the help you need. Take advantage of these different types of appointments. Head to Handshake to schedule an appointment.
UTILIZE ON-DEMAND ONLINE RESOURCES
If you're in the middle of your internship or job search and would like access to additional resources beyond what's available on our website, enroll in Design Your Search. This interactive experience will give you access to online modules in D2L and an extensive overview of strategies to use throughout your search. You also get personalized coaching with an assigned Career Educator and consistent help from trained peers which means you have specific people to turn to who know your needs and goals and can help answer your questions as they relate to you.  Start any time.
FOR FACULTY AND STAFF
CONNECT STUDENTS WITH ALUMNI AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS
Help students connect with alumni or other contacts working in professional fields by providing a referral, which creates opportunities for informational interviews. Students can interact with employers, get answers to their questions and build their professional network. And it’s so easy to do with Zoom and other video chat software. The Job Shadow Program, now being offered virtually, can also help connect students with alumni and employers. On the Job Shadow Program webpage, they can submit their interest areas and we can help connect them.
EMPATHIZE & ENCOURAGE
Empathize with students who may be afraid that they won't have opportunities, and at the same time encourage them to stay the course by reminding them that college graduates have historically fared best in times of lower employment levels.
UTILIZE SECD ONLINE CAREER OR TRANSFERABLE SKILLS CONTENT
Call on us if you need online career or transferable skills content.  We have numerous resources specifically designed for faculty and staff use including open-source content, presentation tool kits, programs and services specifically designed to help you effectively incorporate experiential learning and career development into your work with students. Learn more about these resources: https://career.arizona.edu/faculty-staff/career-resources and http://career.arizona.edu/bts

Tucson Community Food Bank request

My name is Taylor Seitz and I am a freshman undergraduate student at UA; I am reaching out to you because I am looking for a way to gather more volunteers that are greatly needed at the Tucson Community Food Bank during this time of crisis.

This is the message that the TCFB has sent out and that I am trying to pass along:
Hi! For any of you continuing to look for ways to help your community, the Tucson Community Food Bank is in need of volunteers. The food bank urgently needs volunteers to help assemble emergency food boxes. Because many of their regular volunteers are over 60 and need to stay home, the food bank is severely short staffed. If you’re healthy and able, please consider giving up a few hours to help out. Get started by emailing volunteer@communityfoodbank.org. This is a great way to stay active during this pandemic and help the unfortunate.

Thank you,

Taylor Seitz
