Live-in Personal Care Manager

Looking for an energetic, detail-oriented, organized and fun person to live with and help a 22-year student at U of A who has cerebral palsy. Jake just finished his 3rd year at University of Arizona. Jake uses a power wheelchair to get around, but he also walks short distances with assistance. His speech is difficult to understand at first, but people get used to his “heavy accent” pretty quickly. Jake has a great personality and sense of humor, is easy going and a nice person to be with. We like for this person to be a friend and companion to Jake. He needs help with his daily activities, but he’s up for anything and loves to be busy!

There is a team of part-time assistants that are scheduled 60-70 hours per week. This position sets the schedule for the part-time assistants in any way that works for you.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Detail-oriented. There are a lot of things to think of daily….supplies needed for the apartment like food, Jake’s schedule, staying on top of school assignments,...
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Recently graduated from U of A (would be perfect for someone taking a gap year before grad school). This job is challenging to do while still in school.
  • Friendly and personable. Important to help Jake with his social life as well as getting along well with the part-time assistants.

Duties include:

  • Give Jake a shower and help him get dressed.
  • Prepare meals and provide Jake assistance with eating.
  • Schedule part-time assistants weekly.
  • Plan fun activities when possible (sporting events, activities around campus, anything social,...)
  • Manage the apartment...groceries, supplies, laundry, basic cleaning (we send cleaners in every other week).
  • Help Jake engage in sporting and campus events as much as possible.
  • Help manage Jake’s social life...text friends and make plans when possible.
  • Help Jake with the bathroom.
  • Watch movies/shows when there’s nothing else to do.
  • Be available if part-time staff calls in sick.

PERKS:

  • Room and board in 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment in Sol building.
  • Competitive salary.
  • Use of Jake’s car.

*Hoping to have the position filled by about mid-July and Jake will be in Tucson by mid-August. Training will be provided.  If interested, please contact Jen Froman jfroman1025@gmail.com.
