Dear Math 120R and Math 122B
Students,
I want you
to know about the new Math
Problem-Solving (PS) Scholar Program this Fall. The program
starts on September
18th/19th, and capacity is limited.
First Generation college
students and Community College transfer students are strongly encouraged
to apply.
Why become a PS Scholar?
· Scholars work on challenging problems in teams, with
peers, for 2 hours each week**
· Scholars practice the skills learned in math 120R/122B
by doing problems yourself, rather than watching your instructor work on the
board
· Scholars get a chance to feel more confident and
self-sufficient about precalculus/calculus, and problem-solving in general!
· Scholars get a chance to meet and spend time with
experienced math mentors, both individually and in the classroom
· Scholars who complete the program receive a certificate
of completion!
**Scholars must enroll in a
1-unit problem-solving course. This course is available to all
pre-calculus/calculus students at UA, not just PS Scholars. More
information in the PSScholar application
What past students say:
"This course was of tremendous value to me. It helped
me engage with the mathematics myself and learn how to approach and solve
problems on my own."
"The mentor sessions also expanded my horizons career-wise, and led me to consider summer internship opportunities I was not aware of. I would definitely participate in this program again!"
