The Summer Health
Professions Education Program (SHPEP) provides students interested in
health careers the opportunity for a transformative summer experience.
SHPEP connects opportunity with student success. The FREE six-week summer enrichment
program helps college students enhance their academic proficiency and career
development opportunities in a health profession. Participation in the summer
enrichment program may better position students for acceptance into advanced
degree programs.
To be eligible, you must:
•
Be a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or an individual granted deferred
action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status by the U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services;
•
Be a college freshman or sophomore at the time of application,
•
Have a minimum GPA of 2.5; and
•
Identify with a group that is underrepresented in the health professions.
These students include, but are not limited to, individuals who identify as
African American/Black, American Indian and Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino,
and who are from communities of socioeconomic and educational disadvantage.
Applications for the 2019
summer program will open on December 1, 2016 and close on February 15.
SHPEP is implemented at 12
universities across the nation. Each institution provides scholars with
academic enrichment in the basic sciences and math, clinical experiences,
career development activities, learning and study skills seminars, and a
financial planning workshop. Program sites vary on how they deliver each of
these required components and their program start date.
