The University of Arizona’s Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) provides
opportunities for students to participate in a paid, mentored research
experience involving inquiry, design, investigation, research,
scholarship, discovery, and the presentation of experimental results!
UBRP students begin their apprenticeship with a research
mentor by working full-time for 12 weeks during summer 2016. They will
also have the opportunity to learn about science at our orientation
session, ethics retreat, and scientific seminars, and get to know other
undergraduates by being involved in small group
meetings and field trips.
To be eligible for UBRP,
students must be UA undergraduates enrolled in at least 7 credits at UA,
are in good academic standing, and have an interested in biological
research. To
be paid, students must be an American citizen, permanent resident, or
in the case of international students, hold a visa allowing them to work
on campus; international students interested in UBRP who do not hold a
work visa may apply to UBRP as a volunteer
experience if they wish. UBRP is open to students of any major. While
there is no GPA requirement, competitive students are generally those
who hold a 3.0 minimum science and math GPA.
Applications for UBRP are due February 1, 2016 at 5 pm. To apply to UBRP, visit https://ubrp.arizona.edu / and

Additional Summer Research Programs under the UBRP Umbrella
(all applications due February 1 at 5:00PM via UBRP website):
Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention (NACP): A partnership
between UBRP, the University
of Arizona Cancer Center, and NAU to alleviate the unequal burden of
cancer among Native Americans of the Southwest through research,
training and community outreach programs. NACP Summer Research
Internships are offered to American Indian or Alaska Native
undergraduates who are interested in Native populations and reducing
cancer health disparities; any major is welcome. For more information
visit https://ubrp.arizona. edu/programs/nacp/.
Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Summer Research Program (NSCS SRP): The
NSCS Summer Research Program is intended for students in the UA NSCS
program, either pre-majors
or majors, who want an intensive summer research experience to develop a
deeper understanding of neuroscience and cognitive science, to help
consolidate classroom learning, and to help in deciding on a career
path. Participants in the NSCS Summer Research
Program will work for 12 weeks full time in the summer. For more information, visit https://ubrp.arizona. edu/programs/nscs-summer/.
Environmental Health Sciences: Transformative Research Undergraduate Experience (EHS-TRUE): The
UA EHS-TRUE program is a prestigious, National Institutes of
Health-funded undergraduate research training program, targeting
students from backgrounds under-represented in the sciences, that will
pay students to conduct environmental health science research
with some of the leading experts in the exciting area of environmental
health sciences. The program offers each participant two years of paid
year-round (15 hours/week during classes, 35 hours/week in summer)
training and research experience in EHS-TRUE faculty
mentors’ research groups to help develop an understanding of
environmental health sciences, to apply classroom learning to research
in environmental health, and to aid in deciding on a career path. For
more information, visit https://ubrp.arizona.edu/ programs/ehtrue/.
