SHAC

The Student Health Advocacy Committee (SHAC) is an organization under ASUA acting as the liaison between Campus Health and the student body.  We are currently accepting applications for 2016-2017 and encourage you to apply.  Last year we helped train students in continuous chest compression CPR, hosted healthy cooking classes at the Rec, gave health related presentations at local public schools, helped vaccinate the homeless at Hopefest, raised money to contribute to Hopefest during our annual 5K Run for Your Life event, hosted the annual Spring Break Safety Fair, and many more initiatives that our members chose to address. This year we hope to continue advancing our initiatives and reach out to even more students on campus.

As such, we find ourselves growing fast, and therefore we are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team to bring health and wellness to our community. We are looking for different types of people, with a range of skills, including marketing, fundraising, advertising, leadership, or any health related knowledge. The only things required for our applicants are a strong work ethic, an intense passion for health, a desire to help others and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Acceptance into SHAC is highly competitive, but we encourage all who are interested to apply. The application can be found at http://asuashac.wix.com/home#!applications/q657o or attached to this  message. The application launches on the first day of fall classes, but you can sign up to be notified when the applications launch through this link. Application materials are due by September 9th to asuashac@gmail.com.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO HEALTHCARE NEXT FALL

Are you thinking about having a convenient part-time job next Fall that would give you valuable experience?

Next Fall there are 5 disabled UA students looking to advertise their Personal Assistant positions.  Each will be living on Campus and will have small time blocks where they need assistance.  These are PAID positions and can work great with a student’s busy schedule.  Some work would be personal in nature, helping with showering/ dressing / getting in and out of bed.  Other times might be helping with meals, laundry, or shopping.  All are great opportunities for anyone interested in learning about life with a disability, providing great service to a fellow student, and gaining valuable experience that can make you a better Doctor, P.T., or P.A. if these professions are in your future.

A few of the students would like to contact those interested over the summer to tell them about their positions, especially after they come for Orientation in June and know their class schedule.  If you are local and would like to interview with a student while here for Orientation, that would also be beneficial.

Would you like to add your name and email to a list of those who might be interested?  If so, please respond back to me at ssantee@email.arizona.edu  Also, check the blog occasionally over the summer for ads that might be posted starting in July.

These are positions are paid either personally by the student or are paid through a State Medicaid system, the last of which requires a day and a half PAID training which can be arranged either over the summer or at the beginning of the Fall semester.

Thanks for considering these Fall Semester job opportunities!
